Physics Dept. of Atarra College is one of the promising departments of the college since its establishment in 1964. This department is running U.G. and P.G. course since 1964 and 1981 respectively. There are 05 sanctioned faculty positions in the department. One lab assistant and three lab boys are working against sanctioned posts.
Physics department is well equipped in terms of equipments, books, journals, and other facilities. Experimental research facilities are available in the field of Ultrasonics and Solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD). At M.Sc. level, specialisation in Electronics is offered. The department members are not only engaged in teaching, research activities but are also taking part in different activities at the college and university. Various students of Physics have qualified NET, GATE and other competitive exams and also pursuing research activities in the reputed scientific establishments.
The department hosted a seminar on “Timeline of atomic model” on 20th Dec 2013 to commemorate 100 years of the first successful Atomic Model by Neil Bohr. Every year NGPE (National Graduate Physics Examination) is conducted at this registered centre.
